Pakistan-Australia  encounter in Champions Trophy

Not so long ago, the match fixing episode in the world of cricket shocked the game lovers the world over. It took its toll in the form of cricketers’ of the stature of Hansie Cronje, Mark Waugh, Mhmd. Azahruddin, Ajay Jadeja, Salim Malik to name a few. After much acrimony, sanity finally prevailed. Cricket is back…

But cricket is back in most dangerous form. T20’s are easy fodder to prey upon. But look at an important Champion’s Trophy fixture between Pakistan and Australia(Centurion, South Africa on 30 Sept’09). Had Pakistan won the match, Australia would have been eliminated and India would have qualified for the semi finals.

It was an amazing game that makes cricket popular. Indians were praying for Pakistani win, glued to their TV sets. And a thriller (?) of a match. Australia after up and downs manage to scrape through on the last ball. India eliminated and heart-broken.The Bookies delight. (pic courtesy http://www.cricinfo.com)

So what was surprising was the attitude of both teams. Australians were eager to gift the game to Pakistan and Pakistan were not willing to take the gift. Both the team seems wanted themselves to be defeated. So Match-fixing !?-Both an exclamation mark and a question Mark.
